I absolutely love reading books and magazines! I have a customized “Read & Relax” alarm set on my phone for 9 pm every single night of the week. It is my favorite way to end the day.
I also love to decorate with books. I like to arrange my books in attractive ways on bookshelves and cube shelves. It makes me smile when I think about how particular books have enriched my life.
But my home is not overflowing with stacks and piles of books!
That’s because I take advantage of my wonderful local library. I almost always have 10-15 items checked out. It is such a delightful way to splurge! I especially love to see what is in the “New Books” section. The only limit is how many I can fit into my book bag.
(It’s always great to visit with the friendly staff at the Troy-Miami County Public Library!)
Before I buy any books to add to my personal library, I always check out a copy at the local library first. Sometimes you only want to read something once or you may not even like it as much as you thought you would! Other times, you find yourself wanting to read it again and again. That’s when I decide to buy a personal copy.
The same thing holds true for movie DVDs, music CDs, and magazines.
Take a walk through your home and notice how many of these items you only read, watched, or listened to only one time. Notice how much space those items are using. Imagine how the space would look without all those items. Think about how nice it would be not to have those piles on the floor.
If you enjoy reading newspapers, you can easily read a local, state, and national paper while enjoying a cup of coffee at your local library—and then walk away without bothering to fill up your recycle bin.
I challenge you to add up the cost of the items you could check out in a typical month. You might be amazed to discover that it could easily surpass $100 each month or $1,000 every year! Right now I have 8 items checked out that would have cost me almost $250!
And I haven’t even mentioned the digital items available!
Or the public computers available for patron use!
Or the fantastic programs available for children and adults!
Decide to discover your local library in 2018. You will enrich your life while saving money and creating space in your home. Sounds like a great deal for everyone!!
