DELETE THESE ORGANIZING MYTHS

By January 1, 2015 No Comments

A new year presents the opportunity for new ideas, new possibilities, and new adventures. When you think about it, each and every day is a fresh opportunity! But there is something about putting up a new calendar that captures our attention and motivates us to dream about what could be in the days to come.

Too often we drag into the new year old ideas and thoughts that set us up for defeat. Such is often the case with ideas about organizing. Let’s decide to delete the following organizing myths.

  1. “I’M NOT ORGANIZED BECAUSE IT JUST ISN’T MY TALENT!”
Good news—organizing is a learned skill. It involves learning some useful and efficient strategies. And there isn’t just one way to be organized! (Check out this neat quiz to find out your organizing style: http://clutterbug.me/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/What-is-your-Organizing-Style-Test.pdf) It is okay to ask for help to discover how to use your unique style and abilities to create an organized environment that works for you. If you can find your toothbrush every morning, you can organize the rest of your house!
  2. “I’M NOT ORGANIZED BECAUSE IT TAKES TOO MUCH TIME!”
Good news—organizing saves you time. Almost every day people waste time looking for lost or misplaced items. Many times we waste money buying items we already have but can’t find. When you take the time to create designated homes for all the things in your home, you will be pleasantly surprised to discover how easy it is not only to find things, but to put them away.
  3. “I’M NOT ORGANIZED BECAUSE IT IS TOO HARD TO GET RID OF STUFF!”
Good news—organizing helps you discover what stuff is important to you. Let’s admit that most of us have more stuff than we really need. By looking at our possessions with fresh eyes, we can see what is truly useful, beautiful, and meaningful. The more you keep of anything, you lower the value of each item. There are many community organizations that will gladly receive your unwanted items to share with people who actually need them. Organized by Olive has created a Community Resources list for this very purpose.

DECIDE that 2015 will be the year to get organized!

ORGANIZE using practical tips that will save time, money, & energy!
