Discover Simple

By August 30, 2017 2 Comments

Have you noticed how busy and complicated we tend to make life? We fill our calendars with way too many activities and appointments. We fill our homes with way too much stuff. We relentlessly search for the perfect life thinking it holds the key to our happiness.

Maybe it’s time to discover simple.

Why? Because we have a limited amount of time, energy, and money. You really can’t do it all or have it all. So why not simplify your life so that you have the time, energy, and money for what matters most to you.

What does simple look like?

SIMPLE HABITS:

  • Make your bed every morning
  • Sort mail every day
  • Pick up & put away

SIMPLE MEALS:

  • Eat the same breakfast every morning
  • Eat salad & soup or salad & sandwich for lunch
  • Write out 5 simple dinners on index cards that are easy to prepare

SIMPLE CLOTHES:

  • Select clothes every evening for the next day
  • Reduce the amount of clothes
  • Sort clothes by type

SIMPLE CLEANING:

  • 15 minutes to clean bathroom sink, toilet, & tub
  • 15 minutes to clean kitchen counters & load/unload dishwasher
  • 15 minutes to mop the floors
  • 15 minutes to run the sweeper

SIMPLE DECORATING:

  • Use items from nature
  • Decorate for the season, not the holiday
  • Rearrange & repurpose items you already have

SIMPLE PLEASURES TO ENJOY:

  • Afternoon nap
  • Bike ride
  • Classic game
  • Dinner together
  • Early arrival
  • Fresh flowers
  • Gentle breeze
  • Happy faces
  • Ice cream
  • Joyful singing
  • Kind words
  • Library books
  • Making cookies
  • Nighttime walk
  • Organized spaces
  • Planting seeds
  • Quaint garden
  • Rainy day
  • Spectacular sunset
  • TV off
  • Unexpected card
  • Visiting seniors
  • Windy day
  • Xtra day off
  • Your smile
  • Zany doodles

Be refreshed the simple way:

S = savor

I = invigorating

M = meaningful

P = pleasant

L = lovely

E = experiences

“It’s experiences not things that bring true happiness.”

What simple experience will you enjoy today?

    I love this! I am in the process of trying to move towards simplification – but I keep getting bogged down! Thank you for the inspiration!

      Heather, glad you were inspired by these ideas! Sometimes we just need a few fresh ideas to get going in a new direction. Every step you take to simplify your life will open up physical, emotional, and mental space for the life you really want to live.
