Want to know an organizing secret? Even professional organizers like some freebies!
What do the following things have in common?
1 deck of cards
1 package clip
1 magnetic clip
1 letter opener
1 key-chain tape measure
3 to-do lists
3 sticky note pads
1 small calendar
1 small Frisbee
1 drink koozie
1 small candy bar
1 tote bag
All were items I picked up at a recent trade expo! Keep in mind that I didn’t just pick up everything that was setting out on the tables. I only chose the items I actually needed and would really use. I set a limit.
Here is what I did with the items after I came home.
1 deck of cards—put away with other games
1 package clip—used on a bag of chips
1 magnetic clip—used on side of fridge for grocery receipts
1 letter opener—put by my office mail station
1 key chain tape measure—added to my key chain collection
3 to-do lists—put in drawer by my desk
3 sticky note pads—put in drawer by my desk
1 small calendar—put in my purse
6 pens—added to my box of supplies for children’s holiday boxes
1 small Frisbee—put in my Grammy bag to share with my granddaughter
1 drink koozie—put in my car cup holder
1 small candy bar—ate it!
1 tote bag—added to my box of supplies for children’s holiday boxes
Often times at events like these we bring home more than we really will use, and these bags of stuff end up in the bottom of a closet taking up usable space. I think it is more fun to carefully choose a few items rather than just grab everything simply because it is free. Try it next time you go to an expo or trade show!
