OATMEAL OVERLOAD

By July 6, 2015 5 Comments

As part of my morning routine, I eat a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast. I don’t exactly measure the water that I put in the bowl. I usually can see what looks just right! But sometimes I have too much water in the bowl and the oatmeal ends up overflowing onto the microwave glass tray.

No big deal. If I do it right then, I can easily clean up that mess in less than 15 seconds.

Or I can decide I don’t have time. I will clean it up later in the day or tomorrow. But what usually happens it that I forget all about it until I want to use the microwave again. Then I am greeted with a mess that is almost like concrete! And I realize that neglected messes always take longer to clean.

The simple solution? Decide to clean it now! Fresh spills are always easier and quicker to clean. Make it a habit to save time by tending to the mess or problem right when it happens. Make it a habit to quickly wipe out the microwave each time you wipe the kitchen counter. That should only take about 1 minute out of your day!

Here is an easy way to refresh a splattered and messy microwave:

  1. Pour about 2 cups of water into a glass bowl.
  2. Add some lemon juice or vinegar, if you prefer.
  3. Heat for 3 minutes to create steam in the microwave.
  4. Let set for 2 minutes. Carefully remove the water.
  5. Easily wipe out the microwave.

What quick mess can you clean up today?

The dried saltwater that splashed onto a chair when my husband was making pickles in a four-gallon crock. I didn’t mind having to clean the chair after all his work on those pickles. :^)

I know what you mean, Janet!! So much nicer to come back to a fresh & clean table for the next meal. Those few moments make a difference. 🙂

Just pulled out the containers from under my bed while chasing a cricket and noticed the lids were rather dusty…so instead of just pushing them back, I took about 3 minutes to wipe them all clean!
Not really a big deal, but kinda nice to know it is done!
