Who doesn’t love wearing a pretty scarf?
Who has trouble remembering which ones you have?
Who has scarves scattered all around your bedroom or closet?
Just last week I decided to dump all of my scarves onto the top of my bed, aka Marie Kondo style. I had been reading her book and visiting her website in preparation for the Organized by Olive Book Club. I decided to try her sorting method with my abundant collection of scarves.
It became immediately apparent that I had too many scarves! Seeing them all together in one place helped me realize that my collection had gradually grown past what I could reasonably use or wear.
It was definitely time to make some decisions!
Store my scarves in an over-the-door shoe organizer on my closet door.
Accept the limit of 16 pockets for storing scarves.
Choose to keep only the scarves that actually go with my current assortment of clothes.
Return scarves to the pockets after wearing and washing them.
These decisions generated some pleasant consequences!
I see the scarves whenever I am getting dressed and remember to actually wear them!
I don’t feel the need for buying more because I know I have enough.
I can easily select the scarf that matches my outfit for the day.
I can easily put each scarf away when I am finished with it.
The storage solution makes the scarves more accessible while using less space.
So I consider this an organizing victory! And it makes me smile when I see and use such a simple solution. Give it a try and tell me how it works for you!
